Mechanism leading from trichomoniasis to prostate cancer identified

ScienceDaily (Aug. 30, 2012) ? Researchers have identified a way in which men can develop prostate cancer after contracting trichomoniasis, a curable but often overlooked sexually transmitted disease.

Previous studies have teased out a casual, epidemiological correlation between the two diseases, but this latest study suggests a more tangible biological mechanism.

John Alderete, a professor at Washington State University's School of Molecular Biosciences, says the trichomoniasis parasite activates a suite of proteins, the last of which makes sure the proteins stay active.

"It's like switching a light switch on," he says. "Then, if you don't control the brightness of that light, you can go blind. That's the problem."

Alderete and colleagues at WSU and Washington University in St. Louis report their findings in the recent PLoS Pathogens.

Caused by a protozoan parasite, trichomoniasis is often referred to as the most common curable sexually transmitted infection. However, most infected people have no symptoms, so it often goes untreated.

"Most women, it's the Number One sexually transmitted infection," says Alderete. "We're going to have at least 10 million women infected this year and an equal number of men because they all get infected if they come into contact with an infected partner."

Infected women have a greater risk of pregnancy complications and HIV. Infected men have a 40 percent greater chance of developing prostate cancer, according to a 2006 study led by Siobhan Sutcliffe, a Washington University epidemiologist and co-author of the recent PLoS Pathogens paper.

Sutcliffe cautions that the epidemiological link she found is not conclusive and compares the science to the early connections drawn between smoking and lung cancer.

"It's still in a really exploratory phase," she says.

A study after her 2006 research found no connection between trichomoniasis and prostate cancer, while a third out of Harvard found an even greater likelihood of cancer in infected men.

This latest study, she says, "is providing a molecular mechanism that might explain that association."

Much of the study was done in a single building, WSU's Biotechnology and Life Sciences Building, and involved two of the more accomplished researchers on the Pullman campus.

"This is just coincidence. I've only been here five years," says Alderete. "And when I arrived here five years ago, I had no clue that we would be going in this kind of direction. But the more I read and the more we talked in the hallways, the more it became clear that, wait a minute, we may have something here between us."

WSU cancer researcher Nancy Magnuson is an expert on the protein PIM1, a promoter of cancer cell growth, and identified the protein in the cascade of proteins leading from trichomoniasis to prostate cancer. WSU molecular biologist Ray Reeves brought to bear his expertise in HMGA1. The protein turns genes on and off and ended up being the actor making sure other proteins in the trichomoniasis-to-cancer sequence stay on.

Alderete hopes knowledge of the mechanism will lead to better diagnosis and treatment.

"What this is also doing is telling the world, 'People, this is a latent infection,'" he says. "'You guys out there, if you've been exposed to it, you've got it in there, and we need now a diagnostic for you.'"

Amsterdam and the Hague, a short family holiday

Along the canals, each house has a different fa?ade.

Fa?ades in Amsterdam, seen from a canal

Amsterdam, Delft and the Hague are all well connected by tram and/or train. Not all the town centers are open to traffic, so it is easier to move around on foot. Watch out for speeding cyclists and enjoy the sight of the stacks and stacks of bicycles in the stands by the train stations. A short stay in the area provides interest for all the family, even outside the season for Scheveningen beach.

Amsterdam?s canals

A canal tour is the easy way to see the city. Canals are not necessarily what you would call ?nice places? with their murky water ? a great place to get rid of garbage like a rusty bicycle or a supermarket trolley that no-one can be bothered to return for a miserable 50 cents. Nonetheless they have a fascination of their own, and the jumble of houses lining them give plenty of opportunities for photographs. Each slice of house is different from its neighbors; all have steep narrow staircases best affronted on hands and knees. Each has its own distinctive gable and each has a strong hook implanted in the gable peak serving as a furniture hoist in case of moving or replacing furniture. This is already a strong reason why many houses have fine antique furnishings! Cars and bicycles are parked along the canal edge, in many places protected by a low railing added by the town council a few years ago after reading the statistics of cars going overboard. We are told that even so, an average of one car per week ends up in Amsterdam?s canals.

Houseboats on the canals

Housing in Amsterdam has become scarce so people wishing to stay in the city center have obtained permission from the local authorities to moor old barges and other houseboats along the canal banks. They can latch on to the city utilities, provided they have regular permits. The inhabitants of these houseboats can enjoy favorite Dutch pastimes: living in a boat is just right for a maritime people, the cockpits of these barges often contain respectable little gardens, canal life is right at your window, sorry, port-hole. And when the canal freezes, skating is free.

Museums and Galleries

Madurodam, The Hague?s miniature village

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is a must for art-lovers, offering a vast permanent exhibition of painting by Van Gogh and his contemporaries. The website can be checked for special exhibitions. An audio tour for children aged 6-12 is available in English or Dutch, and children in this age range can take part in the Treasure Hunt. Creative workshops are available for the kids, too, but you would need to get a group together to have English Language tuition. Worth checking out since Van Gogh is one of the painters best known to youngsters. See www.vangoghmuseum.nl.

The Hermitage Amsterdam was opened on June 19 th 2009 by Queen Beatrix and Dmitry Medvedev. Curiously, the building was previously a Home for old women. The last inhabitants of the Home left only in 2007 and a few rooms have been dedicated to these old women, with photographs and the old kitchens. The new structure also has a children?s section and fine restaurant. Check the web-site (www.hermitage.nl/en/) for information about future events.
The Mauritshuis, in the Hague, gives you the chance to see the original painting of the ? Girl with a Pearl Earring? , Vermeer?s beautiful portrait which inspired the 2001 best-seller by Tracy Chevalier followed by the 2003 film with Scarlett Johansson. The Mauritshuis has an important collection of paintings including many by Rubens (?Old woman and a boy with candles?), Rembrandt (?The anatomy lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp?), and Carel Fabritius?s surprising ?The Goldfinch? and an excellent audio tour..

Madurodam, the miniature village

This is the Scheepvaart (Shipping) Museum model in Madurodam

A sunny morning in the Hague is ideal for a visit to Madurodam, a miniature village with houses, notable buildings, Schipol airport, docks, canals, windmills and factories reconstructed on a scale of 1:25. Madurodam dates back to 1952, and owes its foundation to Mrs Boon-van der Starp who wanted to raise money for students suffering from tuberculosis, and Mr and Mrs Maduro from Cura?ao who desired a memorial for their son, killed in the second world war. Madurodam presents a marvellous photo-opportunity . The village lies in a sun-filled ?saucer? so a summer visit would require a sun-hat! Try not to dedicate too much attention to a mini chocolate factory. For ten euro-cents, a toy lorry delivers a mini chocolate-bar to the happy customer. This seems to appeal greatly to ladies over sixty!

Caf? service

Enjoy a slice of the local apple-cake in any one of the caf?s you fancy. Service is friendly and there seems to be no pressure to hurry you on, unlike many international cities. In fact, you may have to push to be served if you are in a hurry.

International food

Flemish fries are what you would probably call French fries at home ? try a portion to compare! And while in the Netherlands, visit one of the many Indonesian restaurants at home in Holland.

Attacks in Iraq kill general and 4 others

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iraqi authorities say a one-star general is among five security officials who killed in a series of attacks.

Police said Brig. Gen. Nadhum Tayeh was driving to work early Wednesday when a carload of gunmen opened fire on him in Baghdad.

Hours later, authorities said an off-duty army colonel was killed in a roadside bombing in northern Baghdad. Officials spoke on condition of anonymity in both cases because they were not authorized to release the information.

The deadliest attack of the day came in the city of Kirkuk, where three policemen were killed and six wounded. City police Cmdr. Sarhad Qadir said their convoy hit another roadside bomb.

Kirkuk is 290 kilometers (180 miles) north of Baghdad.

Security forces are a top target for insurgents seeking to destabilize Iraq.

12 eCommerce Best Practices | Business 2 Community

More and more businesses are buying and selling products and services via the Internet. This practice is commonly referred to as eCommerce. eCommerce involves many different technologies including online transactions, funds transfer, and electronic data exchange. As eCommerce because a mainstream part of life, businesses must get on board and make sure their customers have smooth transactions when purchasing products online.

Here are 12 eCommerce best practices you need for a solid digital marketing strategy:

  1. When a customer creates an online profile on your website to purchase your products or services, allow them to use their email address instead of a creating a username. It?s easier to remember and always unique.
  2. Use breadcrumbs on your website to help customers know where they are in your online store. Amazaon.com uses this process so you know it?s good.
  3. Ensure that your contact information is always available and easy to see. This way as soon as a customer has s question or concern, he or she can get in touch right away.
  4. Add a visible search field that is accessible from each page of your website, especially your ecommerce section. Your customers need to find the products and services they are looking for. Make it easy for them.
  5. Add a recommended items and related products feature to the eCommerce section of your website. This practice can lead to more sales as customers see related products and services.
  6. Make sure you have calls to action strategically placed on your website. These can include promotions, deals, campaigns, etc. A well designed graphic with a call to action can go a long way when it comes to increasing sales on your eCommerce site.
  7. Consider adding relevant security badge images to your website. Some people still consider online shopping as a dangerous practice and well placed badges will ease the mind of a worried shopper. This is a great way to build trust on your eCommerce site.
  8. Break up the ordering process into smaller bite sized pieces. Online purchases can be a long-winded process. Creating smaller steps that allow the customer to see where they are in the process helps.
  9. Did you know that the majority of customers that abandon purchases do so during the order process? One way to help prevent this is to add copy to each order page that answers potential questions and builds credibility.
  10. Make sure that the cart and its contents are visible at all times. Customers like to feel in control of their purchases and this practice helps.
  11. Another eCommerce best practice is to show all fees in the shopping carts. We all hate hidden fees so be as transparent as possible at all times.
  12. It?s imperative that customers see a confirmation page before confirming their order. This allows them to review their purchase and make changes as necessary. Make sure this page allows people to easily make edits and re-calculate their total cost.

We all know that happy customers turn into repeat customers. Creating a user friendly eCommerce site will help keep your customers happy and coming back for more. Because each business is unique, eCommerce sections should be tailor made to best meet their needs and objectives.

Here at SHIFT Digital, we specialize in developing custom made eCommerce sites for all types of businesses. If you?re interested in having us take a look at your current site or want to develop a brand new one, contact us and we?ll be in touch within 48 hours.

Pattaya condominium buyers shift their focus to non-seaview ...

Savvy buyers are moving away from properties with a view of Pattaya?s waterfronts

It has been revealed by property consultancy agency, Knight Frank, that there were about 34,060 condominium units in Pattaya located in about 112 projects, a supply which has accumulated since 2007. The majority of condominium units in Pattaya are non-seaview, representing about 43 percent of the total amount of condos, or about 14,733 units, whereas the amount of seaview and partly seaview condominiums represented 32 percent and 25 percent of the total amount respectively.

The company?s research has shown that the highest demand for Pattaya condominiums is for non-seaview projects, with about 7,995 units sold as of the first half of 2012, representing about 54.3 percent of potential sales. The demand for seaview condominiums in Pattaya saw a sale of 5,110 units, around 47.8 percent of the total available, whereas the partly seaview projects were the lowest in demand, with only 4,072 units sold, or 47.2 percent of those available.

Miss Risinee Sarikaputra, the associate director of Research & Valuation at Knight Frank Thailand said that non-seaview condominium projects that are located in close proximity to the beach, attracted condo-buyers who buy the units for second homes or vacation homes, since the projects can offer attractive properties at a price up to two times lower than that of a project next door which provides a seaview.

Miss Risinee added that smart investors are paying attention to off-beach, non-seaview condominium projects due to selling prices which are cheap and will be able to gain more capital appreciation. Secondly, in buying to let, these units are easily rented since the majority of leases work in various industrial estates in the area and they can avoid the traffic in Pattaya city. Thirdly, facilities and amenities are spreading to many parts of the city, such as along Sukhumvit Road from South Pattaya to Na Jomtien.

Knight Frank?s research has shown that the selling price of non-seaview condominium projects which are located off-beach have an average price of THB43,741 (US$1396) per square metre since the cost of land was cheap. Meanwhile, the non-seaview condominiums which are located in close proximity to the beach sold at an average of THB48,486 (US$1547) per square metre, whilst city condominiums had the highest selling prices, with the average cost being THB61,630 (US$1968) per square metre.

Author: Gagan Kainth Article Tools: With over 500 ?paid survey? companies on the Internet, it?s clear that this is a business that?s here to stay. Some of the sites offer you an opportunity to ?get rich quick? while others offer you a chance to earn a few extra dollars in your spare time participating in panels. Can you make a living off of these sites? You sure can ? but not by taking surveys. There simply isn?t enough time in each day to earn a viable living off of the online survey gig.

So how can you make real money with these websites?

It?s very simple. You create a ?survey portal.? While not easy to set up,ralph lauren homme, once established, it?s a way you can earn money and not even have to fill out one survey. The set-up fees are minimal, doudoune moncler, but some computer knowledge is required.

Most of the online survey companies offer a ?referral? fee for directing those who want to earn money by taking surveys to their site. And this is where the money is.

The first thing you need to do is purchase a domain name. You will want to get one that is catchy and easy to remember as well as spell. Once our domain name is secured, you?ll need to set up a website. It doesn?t have to be elaborate at all, but should be attractive to the viewer. And, of course, you?ll need to have a host. Most host companies charge about $25 a month. You want to make sure you acquire a host that allows ads. Some hosting sites like Yahoo are very user friendly, armani, but don?t allow advertising.

You?ll have to do a bit of research into the various survey companies that offer a referral fee. You can sign up for each site and you?ll receive a ?referral link.? This link will be posted on your website in the form of a ?hyperlink.? You?ll want to get as many referral links as you can to post on your website. When researching the companies, make sure that referral payments are made in cash,Abercrombie, not points, and that you can receive them by check or through Paypal. If you decide to accept those that offer points, you?ll have to monitor that site to make sure you cash in the points for cash periodically. Do not bother with any site that offers points in exchange for sweepstakes entries or prizes; you?re wasting your time.

Some survey sites offer ?affiliate? programs. This is where you can actually post an advertising banner on your website. It won?t cost you any money, polo ralph lauren, and every time someone actually clicks on the banner and signs up for the survey company, you?ll get paid.

You?ll want to use a lot of visual effects in your website giving the impression that anyone can make a living online doing surveys. I?ve seen a lot of survey portals, many of them have photos of large homes, pools, exotic vacation spots and fancy cars. Be careful that you don?t use any images subject to copyright.

You can also add some ?testimonials? to your portal site. You have to be careful not to deliberately mislead people; but an ambiguous statement such as ?I was working 56 hours a week at a dead end job and now earn over $10,000 a month ? Brenda K.? are not illegal. Because you?re not directly saying that doing surveys is the reason Brenda K. is now earning $10,moncler pas cher,000 a month. Brenda K. could have won the lottery and is taking her winnings in a monthly payout.

In addition to having several hyperlinks directing people to the survey sites for which you will receive a referral fee, you can also add other advertising on your website. There are several companies that offer pennies on the dollar every time someone clicks on their ad that?s on your website. This is just another way to generate income for your survey portal site.

The most important thing you need to learn how to do is market your site. In addition to hundreds of paid online survey sites, there are also hundreds of free blogging sites. Sign up for them, make as many ?friends? as you can and tout the success of your online business daily in your blog (providing a link to your site, of course),

While this method of making money may be just this side of the law and takes a bit of time, doudoune moncler, a small initial cash investment and periodic updates, this is the only way to make money in the online surveys for cash game. PT Barnum knew it; other people know it and now you do, too. There is a sucker born every minute.

Just make sure the ?sucker? isn?t you. So, for legitimate online internet real companies visit jobslover dot com and picmoney dot com. Taiwan braces for return of Typhoon Tembin

Taiwan warned Sunday that Typhoon Tembin was likely to return as people struggled to clear mud-filled homes after the storm pounded the south of the island with the heaviest rains in more than a century.

The storm appeared to be heading back towards Pingtung county where people were still reeling from the flooding sparked by Tembin when it swept across the southern tip of the island Friday.

Tembin weakened to a tropical storm after moving out to sea the same day but the Central Weather Bureau said it had intensified into a typhoon again Sunday.

"Tembin regained strength and became a typhoon again early this morning. It was moving east-southeasterly," the bureau said.

Although the typhoon was still hundreds of kilometres (miles) from the island, the bureau predicted downpours in the south and southeast and called on people there to take precautions.

On its current track, Tembin was forecast to make landfall again in Pingtung and move northward off the east coast.

The storm's unusual movement was largely affected by Typhoon Bolaven, which was gaining momentum and churning towards southern Japan and predicted to hit Okinawa. Bolaven was about 800 kilometres (500 miles) east of Taiwan.

Tembin, which forced more than 8,000 people to evacuate their homes islandwide, unleashed torrential rain in Pingtung county that was described as the worst in more than a century.

Weather bureau data indicated Pingtung as a whole received 724 millimetres (29 inches) of rain since Wednesday, while the township of Hengchun saw more than 600 millimetres of rainfall on Friday alone.

Television images Sunday showed soldiers helping people remove thick mud from their homes in the flooded area.

As of 0330 GMT, Typhoon Tembin was around 400 kilometres southwest of the main southern city of Kaohsiung. With a radius of 180 kilometres, the typhoon was packing gusts of up to 119 kilometres per hour and moving east-southeast at eight kph.

PFT: Tracking all the roster cutdowns

Carolina Panthers v New York JetsGetty Images

Jets fans were booing.

And they had every right. After paying full fare for tickets, and parking, and (hopefully) beer, they were forced to watch the Jets offense.

But at least the Jets are consistent.

Even after getting a turnover and a short field (taking over at the Panthers 12-yard line), the Jets starting offense continued to pitch a shutout in the preseason, failing to get into the end zone.

If you?re scoring at home (and they?re not, or on the road either), that?s 15 possessions for the starters in the preseason, and no touchdowns. The backups haven?t scored either, leaving no hope that personnel changes are going to fix things.

While it?s easy to rail on quarterback Mark Sanchez, it?s misguided as well, as he suffered through several dropped passes.?They actually looked competent early in the game running no-huddle, but that didn?t last long.

But Sanchez was unnecessarily glib on the sidelines, joking with Michelle Tafoya that they were saving all their touchdowns for the regular season.

For it to have been funny, there would have to be an expectation this wasn?t actually what they are.

The good news is the Jets defense was strong.

It better be.

Here are some other things we learned on Sunday Night Football.

1. There were cheers when Tim Tebow took the field.

I?m not sure anymore if they were sarcastic or sincere.

Of course, when he got a few plays under his belt, they were booing him too. Those were sincere.

The Jets night in a nutshell was when he jumped up to celebrate a surprising first-down scramble, and a few plays later, threw an ugly pick.

End well, this will not.

2. Cam Newton can make plays even without a gaudy stat line.

He was a positively Tebowian 6-of-15 passing for 60 yards and a touchdown, and ran twice for 16 yards.

But he makes the Panthers offense move.

They don?t want him to run as much on purpose this year, but the threat of him making a decision on a zone read is enough to freeze opponents for a second and buy time for him to do something else with it.

3. There should have been more cheers for Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, playing his first preseason game since his surgery to repair his third torn ACL.

Davis has incredible gifts, or had them before his knee was shredded. He can still run well, and the Panthers are going to spot him in rather than try to ask him to play every snap.

As a blitzer and a guy who can drop back and cover tight ends, he?s still good.

But they?ll probably never stop holding their breath every time he hits the ground.

4. The Jets offense has problems, but they are not without players on that side.?Problem is, they?re all getting hurt.

Tight end Dustin Keller left the game early with a hamstring problem, and then backup Josh Baker was take off with a right knee injury.

Whether it?s Sanchez or Tebow, the Jets need safe passes. And without a solid tight end out there (or even his backup), they have issues.

They should sign Jeremy Shockey, for comic relief if nothing else.

5. Not a banner night for the Panthers highly paid stable of running backs.

DeAngelo Williams fumbled twice, Jonathan Stewart was hauled off on a cart with an ankle injury, and Mike Tolbert was on the bench with a bag of ice on his knee.

Armond Smith and Josh Vaughan are up for contract extensions next.

6. The Jets got consistent pressure up front from their starting defense.

Quinton Coples and Muhammad Wilkerson in particular got a good push on a Panthers line that?s at least above average and may be very good.

They?re going to be asked to carry a team, and they may be able to.

7. The Panthers have apparently elected to go with slow and steady over athletic ability at free safety.

Former Ravens backup Haruki Nakamura (who was stuck behind some guy named Ed Reed) got the start and took all the work with the first offense.

Former second-round pick Sherrod Martin, who unlike Nakamura has range, is now a bench warmer.

This was initially a competition, but it appears the Panthers have made their decision. Martin?s such a better athlete it?s comical, but he had a series of gaffes in coverage last year that even had the owner cracking on him.

Basically, they?re electing to go with a limitation they can plan on rather than guessing where the more talented Martin will be.

8. The Panthers offense wasn?t very good either. But unlike the Jets, they had a reason.

Without wide receiver Steve Smith, the Panthers offense is completely different. He?s the vertical threat that makes everything else work.

The good news is, he?s going to be OK after dealing with an infection in his foot.

(AP) ? Tropical Storm Isaac gained fresh muscle Sunday as it bore down on the Florida Keys, with forecasters warning it could grow into a dangerous Category 2 hurricane as it nears the northern Gulf Coast.

Isaac drew new strength early Sunday during a warm-water crossing of the Florida Straits after causing weekend havoc in Cuba, where it downed trees and power lines. Before that, Isaac was blamed for four deaths in Haiti.

On Key West, locals followed time-worn storm preparedness rituals while awaiting the storm after Isaac swamped the Caribbean and shuffled plans for the Republican National Convention. Forecasters said the storm was expected to reach the archipelago sometime Sunday at or near hurricane strength.

A steady line of cars moved north Saturday along the Overseas Highway, the only road linking the Florida Keys. Residents boarded up windows, laid down sandbags and shuttered businesses ahead of the approaching storm. Even Duval Street, Key West's storied main drag, was subdued for a weekend, though not enough to stop music from playing or drinks from being poured.

"We'll just catch every place that's open," said Ted Lamarche, a 48-year-old pizzeria owner visiting Key West to celebrate his anniversary with his wife, Deanna. They walked along Duval Street, where a smattering of people still wandered even as many storefronts were boarded up and tourists sported ponchos and yellow slickers.

"Category None!" one man shouted in a show of optimism.

The Keys were bracing storm surge of up to four feet, strong winds and the possibility of tornadoes. The island chain's two airports closed Saturday night, and volunteers and some residents began filing into shelters.

"This is a huge inconvenience," said Dale Shelton, a 57-year-old retiree in Key West who was staying in a shelter.

Isaac has already left a trail of suffering across the Caribbean.

The storm's center made landfall Saturday near the far-eastern tip of Cuba, downing trees and power lines. In the picturesque city of Baracoa, the storm surge flooded the seaside Malecon and a block inland, destroying two homes.

At least four people were reported dead in Haiti, including a 10-year-old girl who had a wall fall on her, according to the country's Civil Protection Office. The government also reported "considerable damage" to agriculture and homes. Nearly 8,000 people were evacuated from their houses or quake shelters and more than 4,000 were taken to temporary shelters.

The Grise River in Haiti overflowed north of Port-au-Prince, sending chocolate-brown water spilling through the sprawling shantytown of Cite Soleil, where many people grabbed what possessions they could and carried them on their heads, wading through waist-deep water.

Scores of tents in quake settlements collapsed. In a roadside lot in Cite Soleil, the dozens of tents and shelters provided by international groups after the earthquake were tossed to the ground like pieces of crumpled paper, and the occupants tried to save their belongings.

After Isaac passes the Keys, it will move over the warm, open waters of the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to gain significant strength. It could ultimately make landfall on the northern Gulf Coast late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

"Definitely the northern Gulf Coast should be preparing for a hurricane right now," Jessica Schauer, a meteorologist with the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami, told The Associated Press in a phone interview. However, she did note that the forecast that many days away is more uncertain than immediate predictions.

A Category 2 hurricane is capable of top sustained winds of 96 to 110 mph (154 to 177 kph).

Isaac isn't likely to hit Tampa head-on, but it could still lash the city with rain and strong winds just as the convention ramps up. A tropical storm warning is in effect for parts of Florida's west coast, including Tampa Bay.

Convention officials said they would convene briefly on Monday, then immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, when the storm is expected to have passed. Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, declared a state of emergency and canceled his plans to attend convention events on Sunday and Monday.

As of 8 a.m. EDT, the storm was centered about 135 miles (220 km) east-southeast of Key West, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. Isaac had top sustained winds of 65 mph (100 kph).

It was moving to the northwest toward the Keys at 20 mph (31 kph). Tropical storm-force winds extended outward up to 205 miles (335 km) from the center, meaning storm conditions were possible in many places even if Isaac does not pass directly overhead.

A hurricane warning was in effect for the Keys, including the Dry Tortugas and for the west coast of Florida from Bonita Beach south to Ocean Reef, among some other areas, authorities said.

Meanwhile, authorities said a new hurricane watch has been issued from the mouth of the Mississippi River ? not including the New Orleans metro area ? eastward to Indian Pass., Fla.

36 die in China road accident: Xinhua

At least 36 people died in a collision between a methanol tanker and a double-decker sleeper bus on a motorway in northern China on Sunday, state media said.

Local police initially said 28 people were killed when the two vehicles caught fire following the collision, which happened about 2:00 am at Yanan city in Shaanxi province, Xinhua reported.

But just three of the 39 passengers onboard the bus appeared to have survived the accident, the news agency added.

Two of the people who survived were taken to hospital. A total of 36 bodies were pulled from the debris.

Details of the crash -- which happened 200 metres (218 yards) from a motorway service station -- were still unclear.

However, it appeared that the 39-seat bus was full when the accident happened.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident which happened on the Baotou-Maoming Expressway, a motorway which spans the length of China from the southern province of Guangdong to Inner Mongolia in the north.

China's roads are highly dangerous, with traffic laws and safety widely flouted, and truck drivers typically overworked.

Last year more than 62,000 people died in traffic accidents, state media said, citing police figures.

Vehicles carrying explosive materials -- which must first get permission from the police before travelling on the roads in China -- are involved in many of China's road accidents.

At least 20 people were killed in June near the southern city of Guangzhou when two trucks collided and sent petrol into a timber mill below the road, causing a massive blaze.

Buses are also commonly involved in road accidents as operators often seek to cram as many people as they can into their vehicles to maximise profits and drivers hurtle down highways.

Twenty-three people were killed and three injured in April when a bus and truck collided in the eastern province of Anhui.

Another collision between a tour bus and a truck the same month left 13 dead and 21 injured.

Personal Trainer Laguna Niguel Kids Workout Classes ? Cardio ...

Young kids will get numerous mental and bodily benefits if performing activity classes at a young age. Small children usually tend to naturally play but the issue is that present way of living and modern technology developed an imbalance in performing activities. Before little ones went outdoors to play many activities with friends but these days they surf the Internet and play with gaming consoles.

Sadly, kid obesity is expanding at a great amount. Hiring a good personal trainer from Laguna Niguel that is very good with young children could be a very smart move. This is especially true because children are pressured into winning in sports but without having a proper base, accidents could possibly happen.

There are many distinct rewards that could be discussed when you register your child in a proper course which is monitored by a personal trainer from Laguna Niguel including: establishing a lifelong workout habit, improving symmetry, motor capabilities and co-ordination, productive release of energy, managing numerous risk factors like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, and improving cardio-respiratory function and fitness levels.

Some of the advantages of cardiovascular fitness for children are stated below. Interval training routines improve fitness status while preventing too much fatigue and dehydration. Regular interval exercise that is combined with a healthy diet plan averts conditions. Interval workout will offer a heart rate increase that?s graduated and elevates active recovery. The routines are exciting and they will get the children to invest more hours outdoors instead of inside the home watching TV.

Here are some of the strength training advantages. In earlier times it was believed that the ideal way to train kids was to use body weight activities. The personal trainer in Laguna Niguel will explain to you that these days that isn?t practiced a whole lot. Consider that a push-up is quite easy but how many young children can do pull-ups correctly? It is really essential that the young child has a suitable base prior to getting into resistance training sessions.

The truth is that an ideal progressive resistance training program which is completed under the supervision of a professional trainer from Laguna Niguel is quite beneficial for all children. Nevertheless, they must never utilize the exact same devices as grownups simply because the measurement would not provide the possibility to use appropriate form. Additionally, young children must be kept entertained simply because they could easily become bored when performing repeated activities. The personal trainers in Laguna Niguel that worked with kids understand what to do.

A monitored resistance training routine will guarantee that the child will develop right technique, which could be used in the long run. Different reviews outlined the reality that young children will respond much better to many reps and also the application of lesser weights while joints usually need to be through a full movement range.

The end result is that in strength training for kids the most significant fact to take into consideration is educating the kids how to exercise appropriately. They need to learn the appropriate execution techniques and gradual movements are always suggested because they are very effective.

Being in sound condition with the help of personal trainer Laguna Niguel not simply enhances your physique but also your overall health too. The rewards that you can get from Laguna Niguel personal trainer are endless.

An iPod Nano Pocket Watch Crowdfunding on Kickstarter is Designed and Not Just Made in China

Shanghai, China (PRWEB) August 25, 2012

While the face-kini is the latest strange Chinese phenomenon, there are designs emerging from China that are not strange but instead, stylish. Two such designs, PodKit Watch? + ClipClok?, are iPod nano? watch accessories currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter.

An American-Taiwanese industrial designer, Simon Kwan, is amongst the coming wave of independent designers and smaller brands that want to change Western consumers? perceptions of Chinese design. With the success of Apple? MacBooks?, iPhones?, and iPods?, all made in China, the quality and perception of Chinese made products is already improving. Designed in China, however, is still a novel idea, with very few Chinese brands, such as Lenovo? and Haier?, and even fewer Chinese designers making inroads into Western markets. Kwan, and others like him, is seeking to change that.

Kwan?s PodKit Watch? is a modern retro mix of a classic gentlemen?s pocket watch and personal electronics accessory. Inspired by the success of LunaTik?, the first Kickstarter design project to raise almost $1 million in crowdfunding, Kwan decided to also use the site to launch his own take on the iPod?-as-watch product trend. His design, however, adds some new twists. Unlike the LunaTik?, PodKit Watch? isn?t worn on the wrist. It comes with two chains allowing it to be either worn on clothing and bags or as a pendant.

Indeed, Kwan hopes his design will appeal better to women, who may not wish to wear a nano wristwatch, which is somewhat ironically bulky on the wrist. Kwan?s design also doesn?t require tools to install or remove the nano. As with classic pocket watches, this one has a spring loaded cover that protects the nano?s touchscreen display. Opening the cover also simultaneously wakes up the nano?s display from its power saving sleep mode. Nano wristwatch owners need to press the nano?s power button using their other hand to do the same.

The ClipClok? is an analog watch, or timepiece module as its designer refers to it, that is shaped just like a nano. It?s meant to be swapped in place of the nano when owners either can?t wear the nano as a watch, like on rainy days or when their nanos need recharging, or when the next generation iPod nano? is introduced, most likely featuring a new shape and size.

Kwan launched his Kickstarter project at the beginning of August, and with a little over a week remaining, has not had as much success as he had hoped in reaching his funding goal. Does this signal that the world isn?t ready for Designed in China? Kwan thinks not.

He instead believes his campaign?s slow funding is due to his lack of PR and marketing savvy. Prior to launching his campaign, Kwan didn?t even have a Twitter account. He has learned quickly and is now active on Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+. It remains to be seen, however, if his actions now are enough for PodKit Watch? + ClipClok? to succeed.

Regardless of the outcome, Kwan says this, his first attempt at crowdfunding, has been an incredible learning experience, ?My backers, friends, and family have been so supportive. I?ve received enough honest compliments about my designs that I feel confident if I fail this first time out, I can re-structure, re-launch, and succeed in the future. I think there are great designs waiting to come from designers in China, and crowdfunding is a fantastic way to both fund them and validate consumer interest.?

About Simon:
Simon Kwan is an American-Taiwanese product designer, originally from Quincy, Massachusetts, now based in Shanghai. Over his 15 year career as, first, a mechanical engineer, and now as an industrial designer, he has developed commercially successful products both technical; such as audio systems and go-karts, and beautiful; such as luxury travel amenities, fashion bags, and home d?cor products.

Williams not sure if she'll dance at US Open

NEW YORK (AP) ? Will Serena Williams dance at the U.S. Open? The Olympic singles champion isn't sure.

Williams caused a stir with her celebratory "crip walk" dance when she beat Maria Sharapova at the Olympics this month, but has nothing planned if she wins next month's Open. She says the first dance was impromptu. She adds: "I have to win seven matches, so we'll see."

The Wimbledon champ joined fellow tennis players Victoria Azarenka, the Bryan Brothers and James Blake at Thursday's annual Taste of Tennis, where top chefs provide culinary delights in an event for charity. Blake brought his infant daughter, who was cradled by Williams.

Williams says she's still on an Olympics high. She says she and sister Venus plan to be in Rio de Janeiro for the next Summer Games.

Out of all the options there are for increasing penis size nothing worked more effectively easily and quickly than natural penis exercises. I added 2 inches to my size using this method in just 2 months time. Now if they worked this well for me as well as for millions of other men now the question is why are they the most effective way compared to other options?

So we all know that pills and extenders are the lazy mans way to enlarging your penis so what will give you that edge? What will give you the big penis that you always truly wanted? Well it?s safe to say that the only way you will achieve this is if you go down the natural route. In this article I will share some tips on how to get the most out of your little guy.

Most effective male enhancement methods include penis traction devices and exercises. Exercises are what most men prefer over traction devices since they are easy to perform and also are the most affordable method. Furthermore combining exercises with natural pills ensures faster penis male enlargement.

Are you unhappy with the size of your penis? Would you like to be bigger and able to perform better in the bedroom? Results are now guaranteed that will naturally increase the size of your penis permanently. Click here to get Bigger >>

Most men who are struggling with the size of their penis will do anything to increase its size. Now that is where you have to be careful! There are some people who will swear to you that the only way you can increase the size of your penis is through a method of enlargement that will try and stretch the existing tissue to make it longer. However if you are like me you will believe that actually you need to grow your penis through internal means in the same way that you did as a teenager. From my experience I believe that to grow your penis naturally really is the only way to add the inches you really want onto your penis?

Want to increase your penis size and be a better lover to your woman? Don?t jump straight into gulping down growth pills to make yourself bigger. Not only do they cost a lot they may even cause you more harm than good. So what should you do instead? Exercise of course!

Does size really matter? This is the eternal question that has been around for as long as guys and girls have come together and ?gotten busy with it?. It is a question though that preys on the minds of men rather than women.

What exactly are they? Pills for male enhancement more particularly supplements we are referring to are simply a small capsule with a formulation of different ingredients. They are designed to increase a mans sexual functions and performance.

Tour the Wired Office in Google Maps Street View

If you want to know what Beer Robot, the Wired office kegerator, is thinking, all you have to do is follow @BeerRobot?on Twitter. And if you?d like to see Beer Robot?s surroundings, you can now head over to Google Maps. Earlier this week, Wired became the first newsroom in the world to be documented on Google Maps? Street View, after a photo crew stopped by our San Francisco headquarters to shoot both the print and digital sides of our operation.

As with any Street View map, you can navigate through a virtual tour of our office using the familiar directional arrows. The side of the building with cubicle walls, dry bar, and poster-size reproductions of recent Wired covers is where the magazine happens. The side with the open layout, Beer Robot, and (underused)?ping-pong table?is home to our online team.

We?ve actually been contemplating creating our own 360-degree office panorama to share on the web. So when Google spokesman Nate Tyler called a couple of weeks ago with the interior Street View proposal, he had a pretty easy sell. We gave his team full access to our offices, meeting rooms, work spaces, and hallways. All we asked was that Google blur out our faces and monitors. The results are pretty amazing. You can even navigate through doors to go between the two sides of the building

Google has been mapping interior spaces in Street View for a while now, showing things like governmental buildings, restaurants,?museums, and 30,000 pieces of art. And since last October, independent photographers and businesses have been able to upload their own panoramas to Street Views, a project that has delivered a large number of dentists? offices and surprising interiors like Japan?s?Okubo Iwami?silver mine and?Akiyoshi?limestone cavern.?The shoot at Wired is part of a plan to expand into offices and workplaces, which, while not exactly places just anyone can walk into, are still of interest to Street View?s product manager Evan Rapoport, who described these views as ?aspirational travel.?

?I would make two comparisons here,? Rapoport said. ?One would be Antarctica and another would be the White House. These are places where most people will never get to go. The White House is open for public tours but most people will never get there. And there?s a number of other examples I could give you and I would say the Wired newsroom is like this too.?

While this wasn?t a part of the original vision for Google Maps, Rapoport said it was a logical next step for the search giant.??If you want to start to rely on a technology, you need it to be ubiquitous,? Rapoport said.

Google?s Timothy Wang snapped the Wired newsroom using a Canon Rebel T1i, an 8mm Sigma Fisheye lens and a 360 Precision tripod mount that snaps the camera into place every 90 degrees to line up shots. It?s a fairly mid-range setup, not nearly as wowing as the 15-lens Trekker backpack and Street View cars Google is known for. But the decidedly off-the-shelf kit lets the shooter move through tighter spaces without causing a disturbance. Wang shot more more than 500 photos during his visit to Wired while we all worked.

So welcome to Wired.?And apologies in advance for the mess. I blame my coworkers.

x_communication: Talk radio

Heard on local afternoon talk radio

Street vendors and local shop owners seem to be the real winners this week, as unpredicted thunderstorms continue to wash through the city for the third consecutive day. Most have taken to leaving umbrella displays in plain sight at the front of stores and on prominent street corners even when the sun is shining, and locals are often seen buying two or three to get them through the day. If this keeps up, the City may have to increase waste pickup, as the streets and trashcans are starting to overflow with broken and discarded umbrellas.

Local meteorologists are keeping a low profile, many only venturing out into public in disguise, with scenes from The Weatherman being re enacted all over the city, as New Yorkers are finding that throwing fast food is a great expression of their frustration at the recent lack of accurate reporting.

There are now two active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic and NASA is generating satellite imagery to monitor their march westward. Tropical Storm Issac is already bringing rainfall to the Lesser Antilles today, Aug. 22, Tropical Depression 10 formed in the eastern Atlantic, and another low fizzled in the western Gulf of Mexico.

Tropical Storm Isaac formed late on Aug. 21 from Tropical Depression 9 and immediately caused warnings and watches. Tropical Depression 10 formed during the morning hours on Aug. 22 in the central Atlantic, east of Isaac and appears to be following the tropical storm on NOAA's GOES-13 satellite imagery. NOAA's GOES-13 satellite captured an image of Tropical Storm Isaac over the Lesser Antilles, and newborn Tropical Depression 10 trailing behind on Aug. 22 at 1445 UTC (10:45 a.m. EDT). The image was created by the NASA GOES Project at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. Both storms are showing good circulation.

The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument onboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured an infrared image of Tropical Storm Isaac on Aug. 22 at 2:05 a.m. EDT, as it was bringing heavy rainfall to the Lesser Antilles. Strong thunderstorms appeared in a band of thunderstorms in Isaac's western quadrant that had cloud top temperatures as cold as -63F (-52C).

Watches and Warnings in Effect

The National Hurricane Center has posted Warnings and Watches for Tropical Storm Issac. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe and the surrounding islands, and St. Martin, St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, and Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten, British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

There are also hurricane and tropical storm watches in effect. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands; the south coast of the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona westward to the Haiti-Domenican Republic southern border. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the north coast of the Dominican Republic from the Haiti-Dominican Republic northern border eastward to north of Isla Saona.

At 11 a.m. EDT (1500 UTC) on Aug. 22, Tropical Storm Isaac had maximum sustained winds near 45 mph (75 kmh), and the NHC said that strengthening is forecast. Isaac could become a hurricane by Thursday or Thursday night, Aug. 23. The center of Isaac was about 140 miles (230 km) east of Guadaloupe, near latitude 15.9 north and longitude 59.3 west. Isaac is moving westward near 21 mph (33 kmh) is expected to stay on this track over the next couple of days.

The NHC said, "On the forecast track the center of Isaac should move through the Leeward Islands this evening and pass near or south of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Thursday (Aug. 23) and approach the Dominican Republic Thursday night and Friday (Aug. 24).

System 95L Fizzles Out

The third low pressure area that forecasters had been watching for possible development has fizzled out, now that it moved inland in northeastern Mexico. The NHC gives it a "near zero percent" chance of development now.
